AI has dramatically improved efficiency across many disciplines, and product design is no exception. Early attempts at AI-generated interfaces, however, have fallen short, producing flat images without editable components, lacking meaningful structure, or defaulting to generic layouts that ignore brand identity. The question became: can a more intentional, phased approach reduce hallucination, accelerate design system creation, and ultimately produce high-fidelity work that meets a professional standard?
AI can produce rich, on-brand user experiences, but only when grounded in strong design reference. Skipping straight to a finished state doesn't work. A deliberate progression, from concept, to reference training, to design system generation, creates the foundation for a cohesive aesthetic. From there, designs are refined to high fidelity and prepared for engineering handoff.
